The Mallarm? Chamber Players are presenting a brand new series of concerts just for children and their families. The concerts, to be held in Kirby Horton Hall at Duke Gardens, will be performances that will educate and entertain. The music will be interspersed with narration and explanation to give concert-goers, young and mature, the opportunity to learn about instruments and musical concepts.
The first series concert will be presented on Saturday, October 13th, with two 45-minute shows at 12 noon and 1:30 pm. ?The Legend of Pecos Bill? by composer David Waldmanpresents the tall-tale of Wild Pecos Bill as told through music for string quartet, oboe and narrator. Audience members will love hearing about these American folk heroes ? Pecos Bill, Slue-Foot Sue, Widow-Maker the Horse and more. This is a great way for children and adults to experience live music, storytelling and American folklore.
?These concerts are really for people of any age who would like to hear chamber music performed without having to commit themselves to a two-hour concert. You can listen to wonderful music AND enjoy the beauty of Duke Gardens in one afternoon? says Mallarm? Artistic Director, Suzanne Rousso.
The second series concert, called ?The Happy Spider,? will be presented Sunday, March 17th, 2013, at 12 noon and 1:30 pm. High Strung Violins & Guitars of Durham will be on hand to provide an instrument ?petting zoo? for children before and in-between shows for both concerts.
This series is sponsored by Mark and Cindy Kuhn and co-sponsored by the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation.
