MADRID (AP) -Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has missed his 43rd news conference since taking over in 2010, leaving assistant Aitor Karanka to defend the club's form with its lead over Barcelona cut by six points to four in the Spanish league.

Madrid has drawn three out of its past five games and takes on Barcelona at the Camp Nou on April 21 in a crucial match.

Karanka said on Tuesday that there is "no fear or anxiety in the team," adding that "nobody doubts Mourinho, nor this coaching staff or these players ... there are no doubts over the work we are doing."

Madrid plays Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
